1and1.com Reviews Build a Website
1and1.com Overall Review
If you performed an online search of 1and1.com, the first thing you will notice is they have a high number of customer complaints. After researching these dissatisfied customers I found some common areas of frustration.
- A lot of negative comments about 1and1.com customer support. Far too many costumers have posted their unhappiness with 1and1’s poor customer service. When you are considering a web hosting company or registrar, great customer support should be at the top of your list of must haves. If your website goes down and you can’t reach the hosting company in a timely manner, (i.e., immediately, pronto, straightway, A.S.A.P) then your online business or dream may suffer immensely.
- There have been complaints from some who state that their websites experienced outages that lasted 24 plus hours.
- Their control panel is hard to navigate and understand. As a 1and1.com customer, I can attest to that fact. Their control panel has a lot to be desired and really needs to be upgraded to a user-friendlier model.
- They are well known for their peculiar billing policies, (i.e., billing you after you’ve cancelled your account). Canceling your account with 1and1.com is akin to pulling the wisdom tooth of a 9-year-old strong willed child. They demand that you jump through some pretty high hoops before they agree to let you go.
Is There Any Good News About 1and1.com?
Let me clear the air by saying, some of the complaints about 1and1.com can be disregarded altogether for the simple fact that many online marketers inundate the Internet with negative comments and reviews in order to bait surfers to click on their competing ads.
When 1and1.com first started, they were like any emerging company attempting to find their way in a fiercely competitive market; they had some growing pains, a lot of hiccups and have attempted to smooth things over since their inception. I’m hoping they are headed in the right direction.
The 1and1.com pricing for domain name registration is highly competitive, but again, their control panel will take some getting used to. In terms of using them for web hosting, do so at your own risk. Having shared that, on a scale of 1 to 10, I’d probably rate 1and1.com around a 5. I’ll be more than happy to upgrade my opinion when they do three things:
-
Change their control panel
-
Reduce customer service complaints
-
Make the process of switching registrars more palatable.
Is 1and1.com a Fly By Night Operation?
The domain name “1and1.com” was first registered in 1997 and has been around since then. They offer an array of hosting plans to fit most personal and business needs as well as virtual private servers, dedicated servers and click and go eCommerce hosting options.
I would advise anyone searching for a web hosting solution to shop around. Don’t ever make a rash decision when it comes to placing your website with a web host, whether it be 1and1.com or any other web host. Remember, web hosting companies are popping up literally everyday. Many of them are inexperienced fly-by-night Internet marketers hoping to jump on the online success bandwagon.
Did you know that any Joe Blow can start a web hosting company? All they need to do is purchase a Reseller Account from one of the big webs host and they are in business. The problem is many of these resellers may not have the technical savvy to deal with normal everyday issues such as: outages, installing a script or addressing CMS, PHP, Perl, JavaScript and ASP issues. Needless to say, if they become your web host provider, you are in trouble.
An extremely brilliant man once said, “A word to the wise should be sufficient…” When it comes to web hosting and registrars, do your homework!
