GoDaddy.com
Build a Website - Domain Name Registrar Review

GoDaddy.com, Build a Website, Domain Name Registrar Review

As you know there are numerous domain name registrars. Each one has its own pros and cons. In this session, I’ll provide a review of Godaddy.com.

Please note: this review refers only to the functions of the domain name control panel. I DO NOT use Godaddy.com for anything but domain name registration.

Acquiring a domain name through Godaddy.com is pretty straightforward. Once you come up with a domain name, and it is available, you will go through a series of up sells in which Godaddy will attempt to get you to purchase web hosting, e-mail services, SSL certificates and other products. Ignore those sales pitches and complete your purchase. If you don’t currently have a Godaddy account, you will be prompted to start one. It’s no additional cost and you will need it to manage your domain name(s).

A few moments after completing your purchase, you will receive an e-mail confirmation indicating that your transaction was a success. At this point, you are afforded the opportunity to log in to your Godaddy account.

The Godaddy Control Panel

One of the things I like about Godaddy.com is the control panel, (Domain Manager v 4.1). It’s pretty easy to learn, even without a technical background. Once you are logged in you have literal total control of your domain name(s). With a few simple clicks, you can change DNS servers, transfer ownership, renew domains and make administrative account changes. Based on experience, I would rate this domain name control panel an “8.”

Godaddy.com Pricing

When it comes to domain name pricing, most Registrars realize that the average person is not going to do their homework by comparing prices and services. Case in point, I still receive letters from various registrars offering me a deal at $35.00 per year, per domain name. Go figure? With Godaddy.com, I’m paying $6.99 for dot com names with the package I have. But guess what? Some people still fall for those quote, “Specials,” when they can get much better pricing at Godaddy, Moniker, etc.

Not too many registrars are going to beat Godaddy’s pricing. If they do, it won’t be by much; maybe a dollar, possibly $1.75. 1and1.com currently beats Godaddy.com’s price by $4.00, however, their system of registering a domain name is archaic, (it takes a couple of days) and their control panel has much to be desired. All in all, Godaddy.com is a great company for registering domain names.

Godaddy.com Complaints

When a company achieves enormous growth and recognition, it always becomes the target of perfectionists, Monday morning CEOs, whiners and complainers and people who are adamantly against big corporations. That being said, in your quest to find a registrar, you will read of people who literally hate Godaddy.com.

Even the people who make gross errors seem to join the rant bandwagon. In March of 2008, I listened intently to a disgruntled ex-Godaddy.com customer. This individual had changed his e-mail address BUT did not update his Godaddy account with his new contact info. When his domain name came up for renewal, Godaddy sent the renewal notice to his e-mail address on file, which of course bounced. He admitted that he completely forgot about the renewal date and needless to say, a domain name investor grabbed up the name as soon as it became available.

Furious that he lost a valuable domain name, this individual completely ignored his blunders and started posting notes in forums about how Godaddy sucks and they should have did this and done that. I shared that to say this, don’t be misled by the

Godaddy.com Customer Service

I would rate Godaddy’s customer service as a “8” on a scale of 0 to 10. I give them that rating simply because when I’ve had to call or e-mail, they answered. Sometimes my hold time was (in my opinion) long, ( 22 minutes in one instance) but that is to be expected to some degree because the company has so many customers.

Godaddy.com Summary

Overall, GoDaddy.com is a great place to register domain names! But as I advise every Internet entrepreneur, web master and website owner; NEVER use a domain name registrar for anything except registering domain names.
