Secrets to Getting Great Website Traffic
There is a saying, “If you build it, they will come!” When it comes to website traffic, nothing is farther from the truth. There is an endless supply of websites, sales pages and blogs that get very little to no website traffic at all. If you want to avoid their frustration and disappointment, follow these simple rules.
Website Traffic Rule #1
Your Website Must Be Search Engine Friendly
If your website is not search engine friendly, you might as well build a fuel efficient vehicle in your garage that gets 105 miles to the gallon and not tell a soul… and hope that people will find out about it and buy it. Sounds crazy right? Well that’s exactly what many people do when they build or have built great websites that are not search engine friendly.
Website Traffic Rule #2
You Must Have An Eye Catching Website Header
The first thing people see when they visit any website is the website header. When they see an unprofessional, amateurish or down right unappealing website header, they either hit the back button or the click on the RED X in the upper right had corner of their browser. Make no mistake about, a poor website header is like putting a sign at the top of your website that reads “This Website Sucks!”
Website Traffic Rule #3
Your Website Navigation Must Be User Friendly
When users have a hard time navigating a website; they simply leave. Your navigation is the jumping off point of your website. It’s what people use to jump into other areas and pages. Your navigation menu should be designed in a logical order that makes it easy for users to find what they are looking for.
Website Traffic Rule #4
Your Website Must Contain Valuable Content
Whoever coined the phrase, “Content is king,” was right! If you don’t have anything interesting to offer your visitors, they won’t come back to your website and they won’t refer others. When we say content, we are referring to informational articles, news articles, product reviews, gossip, etc. Pictures don’t count as content, because people rarely perform searches using pictures. If your content is skimpy, so will your website traffic.
Website Traffic Rule #5
Your Website Layout Must Not Be Cluttered
Have you ever visited websites that contain everything under the sun? They proudly display various banner ads: small, medium and large and other graphics. And that’s in addition to countless affiliate programs, Google Adsense ads, widgets and other links. This is called overdoing it and it is overwhelming for most surfers.
Proper website layout makes your content the focal point of your website. Anything else, advertisements, affiliate programs, etc., should be integrated into the website without making it look cluttered. Attractive eye appealing website layout is all about uncluttered simplicity.
Website Traffic Rule #6
Your Website Should Include a Contact Page
Although it may be rarely ever used, you should have a contact page with either a contact form page, an email address, email link, phone number, live chat or some means for visitors to contact you. Without a contact page, people are going to have a hard time believing your website is legitimate.
